Meditation as we know it today in the West has left the boundaries of religion and is seen mostly as a practice for helping the mind and body to relax in our busy and stressed society, promoting better health and inner peace. Some westerners however still pursue it for spiritual enlightenment along with its health benefits. The term meditate was introduced by Monk Guigo II in the 12th century and originates from the Latin word “Meditatum” which means “to ponder”.

So where did meditation start and how long ago? The truth is that no one really knows for certain with many scholars stating that Meditating could be as old as mankind …
