Growing Old – Lock Down Day 47

Confusion reigns this morning as we were told a few days back that elderly people would be allowed outside for an hour starting 1st May, with maybe restrictions before 2pm whilst children would be allowed out after 2 pm. Now we hear….I was horrified yesterday to hear that in Zahara de los Atunes, near Cadiz, the authorities used tractors to spray more than 2km (1.2 miles) of beach with a bleach solution

I woke up quite bright this morning with the sun shining through the window, after showering and pottering around singing, humming and generally bright, I then came to the computer realising how sensitive I am to the news around me….

Finally my face mask arrives, it reflects all the colours around so will be a perpetual changing of colour! what a surprise it showed gold in the advert.

Since finding out that we may be able to leave our homes in the next few days a tiredness has come over me, it feels like I need to summon the energy for that last final push. – This led me to think of Trauma and wondering if we may all be experiencing a collective trauma, and what will be its effects in the future?

Coming out of Isolation, all are suffering from collective trauma to some degree
I feel we must all learn to control our trigger reactions and not take things personally, but acknowledge the other person is coming from a place of suffering too

2020 seems to have been a roller coaster with the whole year so far living in un-certainty, we watched in the first few weeks as the whole of China were in face masks and waiting to see whether they could contain the virus – its hard to remember all that happened outside this virus in our minds, do we remember the fires that raged in Australia and the horrors of the affected wildlife that touched everybody’s souls, it seems such a long time ago, a sort of haze in the memory, but it wasn’t they were only extinguished in March!

Today besides hearing the sounds of small children outside for the first time, we finally woke to some positive news, last night the government announced that “If the evolution of the pandemic keeps moving in a positive manner, starting on May 2 outings will be allowed….

Today feels like we are waiting for the Apocalypse to arrive, don’t ask me why, it’s just such a heavy atmosphere again, gloomy outside and dark inside with everything seeming to be hard work. I guess we have to expect these days and feelings as they come…

I have a book that was published in 1990 in the UK called “50 simple things you can do to save the Earth” I often pick it up but the sad fact is that nothing has changed, the same book is as relevant today as it was then…..

Growing Old – Lock Down Day 40

Well here we are on Day 40 of a lock down, it sounds kind of Biblical! – we are all feeling slightly annoyed when we see or hear of others doing things that we cannot, like I have said many times before we are not all equal in this – Dalai Lama gave a speech, so I would like to leave you with a snippet: “ COVID-19 is ‘a lesson in universal responsibility’ Whether we like it or not, we have been born on this earth as part of one great family. – Finding balance in our reactions to interaction

With so many pent up emotions accumulating, we may need to find ourselves more in balance with our reactions to interaction as we ease out of lock down.

Growing Old Day – Lock Down Day 39

Today April 22 marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, I gently reminded my daughter yesterday as I usually do and she asked me a simple question, “what is it exactly”. This came I am sure because there have been other Earth day celebrations recently…

Growing Old – Lock Down Day 38

Yesterday I managed to get through my day of apathy and it turned out to be quite pleasant flowing smoothly – Pets are so special, they become part of our family and we learn to love them whatever their personalities – I have decided to buy face masks and not attempt to make them as stated in a previous blog
